This is the latest Twitter scam (happened on February 21) according to which Elon Musk was giving away Ether for free. Let us see how the scammers perpetrated this scam.
Scam! Elon Musk is Not Giving Away Ether for Free to Twitter Users
This scam started with a simple plan of action wherein scammers picked up a tweet from Elon Musk about Falcon launch.
Scammers appeared on the scene and utilized a Twitter account that closely mimics that of Elon Musk and posted a reply to promise Ether for free.
People just had to send an insignificant amount of Ether to address scammers had provided to receive the bounty from (fake) Elon Musk.
To celebrate the launch of Falcon, I am giving away five thousand ETH to all my followers (the reply from @elonlmusk which has an extra L between Elon and Musk), was the reply from the scammer.
According to the bait all you were required to do is send about 0.5 to 1 ETH to a specific address and in return Elon Musk would give 5 to 10 ETH back to the same address that was used for the previous transaction.
When Twitter users clicked on the provided ETH address, they reached a page which made them feel that ETH is actually being sent out but in reality it is a completely fake page.
