Adobe and Shantanu Narayen – An Association of More Than 19 Years

adobesystemsOne of the well-known Indian Americans, Shantanu Narayen is a top level business executive and presently holds the post of CEO of Adobe Systems (Shantanu became the CEO in 2007). Before becoming CEO, he was the COO (Chief Operating Officer) and President of the company from 2005.

Apart from holding the post of CEO, he is also at the helm of Adobe Foundation’s board as its president. Adobe Foundation is known for funding various philanthropic initiatives across the world. Let us now look at his early life as well as career progression.

Early Life

Shantanu is basically from Hyderabad, India and had his schooling from Hyderabad Public School. After completing his schooling, he finished his B.E. (in Electronics and Communication Engineering) from Osmania University, India.

Then he moved to US where he completed his MBA from University of California, Berkeley and then followed it up with a Master of Science (in the stream of computer science) from Bowling Green State University, Ohio.

Later on, in 2011 he was given an honorary doctorate in Applied Science from Bowling Green State University.

Adobe and Shantanu Narayen – Upward Trajectory of Shantanu’s Career

At the inception of his career, he joined Apple then after that he became director of Silicon Graphics for their collaboration and desktop products section. Soon after, he became co-founder of Pictra Inc., which is the company that is attributed for pioneering the idea of photo sharing on the web.

Then in 1998 he moved to Adobe and took up the role of Senior Vice President for Adobe’s product research group. Later on, he got a promotion and became executive vice president for company’s worldwide products division. Finally, he was selected as CEO for the company in 2007 and still serves the company in this position.
